Ever Forgot Your Pants?
Colossians 3:12-14
Did you ever dream that dream where you’re standing in front of your class at school, maybe presenting a book report or something, and everybody starts to snicker and laugh? And you can’t figure out why at first, but then you look down and realize that you forgot to wear your pants to school? And it’s awful because there is no place to go. Even if you run from the room, there are people in the hall that see you, too.
It is not a good dream to have, because even though it’s just a dream, that dreadful feeling of embarrassment is real.In today’s passage, Paul tells us to get dressed. He talks about compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience, forgiveness, and love. He talks about wearing these things as clothes, because as Christians, without these, we’re naked. Remember what happened to Adam and Eve when they suddenly realized they were naked? (Genesis 3) They became embarrassed and ashamed—so much so that they couldn’t stand in front of God. We stand in front of God every day. Let us not be ashamed by a lack of compassion or an act of unkindness or boastfulness or impatience.
