Youth Day
On March 26th, Holloway had their first youth day of the year entitled ‘Father Can you hear me?’ Youth day had come at the end of the week of prayer in which the young people had met and discussed issues such as; forgiveness, fasting and prayer, claiming requests. A relaxed atmosphere was created for most of the week, by moving the venue from the sanctuary to the upper hall. Many of the young people sat on been bags, and asked question during the presentations. Monday and Tuesday in the upper hall had really good attendance with some people even standing at the door. We loved the cosiness and it seemed that everyone was connected- well sometimes they were connected to their BB’s (!) but they came anyhow.
Some of the special features of the week were the prayer tree and the prayer wall; the prayer tree was an impressive, sinewy design. For the Wednesday night programme, led by Sis Osei, the church were encouraged to write their requests on leaves and put them on to the tree. The prayer wall also was designed so that during the prayer time, young people could write their prayer requests and see how God would answer them during the week.
Food was provided for the young people each night after the programme and definitely appreciated! On the Friday night the Agape Feast, although still upstairs was a more formal affair, with food by candlelight. The meal consisted of breads, humus, fruits, nuts and grape juice. It was a time where people sang and shared testimonies together.
Sabbath morning was full of expectation. The days programme had been split to three sections The forsaken- Sabbath school, The process-divine service and The answer- AYS. Sabbath school featured and excellent poem by Charmaine and beautiful rendition by Serena, Tracy summarised the theme at the end of the Sabbath school with some choice words and quotations.
As you would expect for a youth day, there were many visitors and a good atmosphere. Pastor Gary Gordon from the North England Conference was the main speaker for the day. He delivered an excellent sermon on the process that we have to go through to get where God wants us to be. He was humorous, straight talking and inspirational.
A special praise team were put together for the day, led by Tracy. There were other features in the divine service such as excellent poetry by Clarence, David Ogbedie and Kerrianne and a beautiful duet by David O and Jhenaya entitled ‘Father can you hear me?’ The welcome was inclusive and warm, by Wuni -Bannah and Nola. Anthea and David Adams worked with the youth to put together a youth choir, which sang, ‘Glory to Your name’ and Total Praise.
The afternoon programme had several sections. Rannette gave an analytical presentation on Hannah’s answer to prayer, Pastors Holder and Gordon answered questions about prayer and finally, Brother Ray Patrick summarised the themes of the day in a short sermonette. It was a blessed day and we looked to more youth focused events thoughout the year.
